The Future of Enterprise Mobile Management

The Future of Enterprise Mobile Management

Mobile devices have become central to productivity, streamlining communication and allowing employees, with the right applications, the ability to work anywhere, anytime. They’ve gone from being a novelty to a useful tool and eventually became a necessary core technology. Enterprise mobile management helps track, monitor and secure mobile devices, but these solutions can be expected to change over the next few years.

Enterprise mobile management helps organizations stay on top of their inventory of diverse devices and the different levels of security they employ, all with short lifecycles. As the centrality and prevalence of mobile devices changes, will there still be a role for enterprise mobile management, or will these solutions become obsolete?

More Comprehensive Management Tools: You can expect that traditional enterprise mobile management tools will be expanded to include unified endpoint management that adds personal computers and the Enterprise of Things (EoT) that organizations expect to incorporate in the near future. Even though there are already PC management tools in use by enterprises, the need for simplification and the dominant role of mobile devices means it will probably all come under the umbrella of unified endpoint management.

Increased Competition: As these technologies fight for the attention of enterprises, there will likely be comprehensive solutions offered by the major public cloud providers also empowering EoT infrastructure solutions. Enterprises will need to evaluate their enterprise mobile management tools to determine whether they are future-proof for changes coming or EoT plans.

Adding in Artificial Intelligence: The array of diverse devices, as well as the increased security challenges, will make EoT almost impossible for IT to manage and secure. Future capabilities will include artificial intelligence as a way to offer protection and defense for endpoints. Artificial intelligence will also remove some of the burdens from IT, as teams are forced to evaluate solutions in terms of both their capabilities and their drain on IT time and resources.

Prioritizing Security: Before long, it will be impossible for enterprise mobile management solution providers to introduce any product without full security offering for endpoints. There may be acquisitions where enterprise mobile management takes on security solutions in-house to increase their capabilities in security management. Enterprises will be forced to weigh the features available in a particular solution with the security it provides to endpoints.

If your enterprise uses an enterprise mobile management solution, be prepared for a change in the next two to three years to a unified endpoint management approach. You might think about how your organization will transition to a new level of endpoint management and the security that’s required to support it.
