Tips for Improving Mobility Security Strategies

Organizations across all industries have embraced mobility, but managing mobility and security hasn’t been a top priority for many of those organizations. This can be a critical misstep. Mobility allows your workers to be more flexible, more available, and able to work from just about anywhere. But don’t let your newfound freedom in mobility be your weak link.

Get Encrypted

Something as small as encrypting your email program is a great start to embracing mobility and security at the same time. Because most people will check their work email even when they’re off the clock, you need to make sure they get the same protections away from the office as they do while they’re on your network.

There are a number of third-party encryption tools you can use for your sensitive data flowing through email. If you tried older encryption tools and took a pass because they were too clunky and slowed down productivity, take another look, because the tools of today are much more worker-friendly, yet offer top-notch security services.

Go Business Class

You probably have a policy of avoiding file-sharing devices at work, but there is a fairly good chance your employees have at least one of these apps on their mobile device. If you choose one that is of business class quality, you can avoid the pitfalls that occur with consumer-grade file sharing services.

Multi-Factor Authentication is Your Friend

Multi-factor authentication (MFA) is a security methodology requiring that before access can be given to a system, multiple identification forms must be entered. As much as you push a password hygiene strategy, you know there are going to be employees that have a lazy approach, which is why having them sign in with MFA is the only way to be sure your usernames and passwords aren’t going to be the weak link into your system.

The most common MFA method is using two-factor authentication, or 2FA. 2FA adds one layer of security to your traditional username and password scenario. While hackers might be able to get access to usernames and guess passwords, the added layer puts them at great odds for gaining access to your data.
